First Peoples' House
First Peoples' House
Standing true to our beliefs as First Peoples and guided by our cultural teachings, the First Peoples' House provides an environment of empowerment for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) students at the University of Alberta to achieve personal and academic growth.
Our vision is to demonstrate our commitment to the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit student community on campus and provide services that reflect this responsibility. We will continue to honour the Indigenous worldview of education as a continuous ceremony of learning by respecting and supporting the voices and spirit of our student community at the University of Alberta. What programs & services do we offer?
When it comes to our programs, services and supports, we use the medicine wheel as our guide.
The Medicine Wheel is an ancient symbol of the universe used to help people understand things or ideas that often cannot be seen physically. It reflects the cosmic order and the unity of all things in the universe.
The medicine wheel teaches us that balance is essential for our development as healthy and happy individuals. To find this balance, we must equally develop the four aspects of our being - the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Being out of balance can negatively impact our development and overall health and wellness. That is why we have programs and services dedicated to the physical, mental, emotional, financial and cultural wellness of our students.
